        $9.6bn, SIPRI estimated.
One of the new business to appear in the last year is Russia’s nuclear technology exports business, which is booming. The state-owned company Rosatom has 27 firm orders to build power stations that cost about $10bn each and come with 60-year service contracts, and another nine deals that are likely to happen soon. In addition it will roll out small modular reactors (SMRs) which are basically mini-nuclear reactors that can be used to power remote mining towns or are simply cheaper so poor countries can more easily afford to finance them and then add to the capacity in series over time. Russia is already a world leader in this business and given nuclear power is one of the few reliable sources of emissions-free power this business is likely to continue to grow.
