8.1 Bank sector overview
The CBR has published preliminary banking sector statistics for April.
The 8% MoM weaker rouble supported the balance sheet performance.
Corporate loans were up 6.2% y/y (excluding the FX factor, only 3.7% y/y). The retail portfolio grew 1.8% MoM and 16.6% y/y (up from 15.7% y/y in
March) as demand for mortgages and consumer loans remains strong.
Asset quality remained stable in the corporate segment and notably improved in retail.
Retail deposits increased 10.2% y/y and corporate 6.6% y/y . However, excluding the FX factor, growth was 8.3% y/y and 3.2% y/y, respectively. The CBR fund grew 15.1% MoM and 85.1% y/y, likely due to the ongoing sanitisation process.
Profit in April recovered 5.7% MoM, but fell 14.0% y/y. Four-month profit was also down, 2.9% y/y, likely on higher provision charges and a decline of NIM.
The latest data suggests an outperformance by Sberbank in lending in both the corporate and retail segments. Sector profit is gradually recovering, but pressure from declining NIM might stay intact in 2018. Solid growth in CBR
