special status to Donbas and enshrining it in the nation's constitution of Ukraine, which is a part of Kyiv's agreement to approve the so-called Steinmeier formula of the Donbas peace process, according to October's s survey conducted by the Razumkov Center. The majority of respondents (56%) oppose the provision of a special status for certain territories of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions and enshrining it in the constitution of Ukraine (only 26% of respondents support it). The idea of introducing a federal structure in Ukraine is not supported by 63% of respondents, while 17% support it. As for the political future of the territories of this area, 56% of Ukrainian citizens would like Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine to return on the same conditions as before, 13.5% would like these territories to come back under Ukrainian control, but would receive more independence from Kyiv, that these areas form autonomy within Ukraine - 10%. At the same time, only 3% of respondents would like to see these territories separated from Ukraine and become independent states - 3%, and that these areas separate from Ukraine and become part of the Russian Federation - 3%.
In 2018, about 3.2 million first residence permits were issued in the European Union (EU) to non-EU citizens. Ukraine was the biggest winner with half a million permits granted - mostly in Poland. Family reasons accounted for almost 28% of all first residence permits issued in the EU in 2018, employment reasons for 27%, education reasons for 20%, while other reasons, including international protection, accounted for 24%.
Russia and Ukraine both saw a sharp recovery in life expectancy since the boom years of the noughties. In Russia (red line) the life expectancy continues to climb (green trend line), where in Ukraine (blue) recent gains have stalled due to the economic crisis .
