NEWS IN BRIEF
LatAmOil
The recent expansion of Ocean Infinity’s fleet of AUVs and innovation in battery technology demonstrates the company’s commitment to ensuring the safest and most sustainable service for its clients. The award of this contract is testa- ment to Ocean Infinity’s efforts to use sustainable technology to gather information and confirms its fast emerging position as the leading marine robotics company in deep water data acquisition.
Paul Helmore, Ocean Infinity’s CCO, said: “We are very pleased to be supporting ExxonMo- bil in Guyana with our advanced data acquisition technology to help them identify and evalu- ate seabed conditions on the Stabroek Block. Our innovative use of sustainable, low-impact technology will support their development of the acreage and ultimately to meet the region’s growing energy demand. This contract award is further evidence of Ocean Infinity’s ability to provide pioneering, eco-friendly solutions to major players within the energy sector.”

Sandvik wins first steel
tube umbilical order in
Brazil’s Mero oilfield
Sandvik has won the first large scale stainless steel umbilical tube order in Brazil’s pre-salt Mero oilfield. The milestone contract is sig- nificant for the offshore Brazilian oil and gas industry, which typically uses thermoplastic hose umbilicals. It will consist of over 500 km of Sandvik’s super duplex Sandvik SAF 2507® stainless steel umbilical tubes encapsulated by Prysmian Group.
Mero is an expansive pre-salt oilfield in the Santos Basin offshore Rio de Janeiro with immense oil production potential. As one of the most prestigious projects in South Amer- ica, the Mero oilfield is being managed by the Libra Consortium, made up of a partnership between Petrobras, Total, Shell Brasil, CNPC and CNOOC Ltd.
The first phase of the project, Mero 1, is an ultra-deepwaterprojectconsistingof17wellsin a water depth of approximately 2,000 meters.
As the Brazilian oil and gas industry moves further and deeper offshore, the need for more robust products able to withstand higher
pressures, corrosion and erosion is growing. Sandvik SAF 2507® is an austenitic-ferritic stainless steel that performs well in highly cor- rosive conditions. It offers excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking, pitting and crev- ice corrosion, erosion corrosion and corrosion fatigue. It features high mechanical strength and good weldability. Umbilicals seamless tubes made from Sandvik SAF 2507® provide stronger structural reinforcement in smaller sizes com-
pared to less durable thermoplastic technology. “There are several advantages to using steel tubing over plastics, but the main one is reli- ability in challenging conditions. At Sandvik, we have been observing market trends in Brazil closely for the past 20 years and are well placed to support the transition from thermoplastic to more robust steel,” said Alan Souza, Sales Man-
ager, Sandvik.
In 2015, Sandvik identified Brazil as a key
growth region and opened its South American hub in Rio de Janeiro, which houses a service center, sales support and a warehouse.
With this local hub, Sandvik has been strengthening its footprint in the Brazilian oil and gas industry and expanding relationships with the key operators in the region for some time.
“We’re excited to be one of the pioneers work- ing on such a high-profile project in the region and to support the growing recognition of the benefits of steel over plastics for umbilicals off- shore Brazil,” concluded Souza.

Ampelmann enters Guyana
after securing contract with
SBM Offshore
Ampelmann has added Guyana as a new market to its global portfolio. In a contract with SBM Offshore, an expert in floating production and mooring systems, the company assisted the hook-up and commissioning of their FPSO.
“Our first project in Guyana is a great achieve- mentforus,”saidFlorisBrands,BusinessDevel- opment Manager Americas at Ampelmann. “We thank SBM Offshore for their repeated trust in our services as we aim to bring high workability and the highest possible safety standards to the
region.”
For the campaign, an Ampelmann E-type
system was mobilised on the Normand Installer vessel to allow personnel to easily access the FPSO. Operations took place about 200 km away from shore in deep waters. The E-type is perfectly suited for the conditions as it has an outstanding track record and can fully com- pensate vessel motions in wave heights up to 4.5 metres Hs.
The system enabled close to 10,000 safe per- sonnel transfers to and from the FPSO through- out the duration of the project.

Frontera announces
six-month extension on
Block 192 in Peru
Frontera Energy has executed a six-month extension agreement with Perupetro with respect to the temporary service contract on Block 192 in Peru. The contract, which was due to expire on March 2, 2020, has been extended to September 2, 2020. The extension will help sus- tain production from the Block while the process relating to the award of a new long-term contract for the Block is completed, which is expected in 2020.
Recent production on the Block has been approximately 7,100 bbl/d. The execution of the contract extension will enable Frontera to undertake a workover and well service program which is expected to return production levels near 8,500 bbl/d in the coming weeks. Produc- tion during the term of the current service con- tract has been inconsistent due to intermittent NorPeruano pipeline availability and commu- nity disruptions. Production on the Block during periods of normal operations has been approxi- mately 8,500 bbl/d.
The Company remains committed to con- ducting its operations in Block 192 in a socially and environmentally conscientious manner, while continuing to invest in solutions to meet theneedsofthecommunitieswhereitoperates through its Social Investment Plan, working in conjunction with local, regional and federal institutions in Peru.
