Ferrexpo daily pellet output grows 15% m/m in January Ukraine’s largest iron ore pellet exporter Ferrexpo (FXPO LN) produced 977 kt of pellets in January, which amounts to 31.5 kt per day, a 15.4% m/m increase, according to our analysis of data reported by Interfax-Ukraine on February 13.

ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine’s biggest iron mining and steel manufacturer, invested $415mn to develop production last year. This was slightly less than the 2018 level of $433mn, the company reports. “2019 was a difficult year for all plants of the mining and steel complex of Ukraine, while the second half of the year was more difficult than the first one,” reads the company press release. “It was increasingly difficult for Ukrainian exporters to sell their steel products due to a significant drop in prices and general decrease in steel consumption on the world markets.”

Farmak, the Ukrainian pharmaceuticals manufacturer, increased its exports to over 22% of total sales in 2019, said company head Volodymyr Kostiuk. He complains to Interfax-Ukraine that the pharmaceutical industry exports to 28 countries around the world, including some of the largest western markets, but the sector is not in Ukraine's export development strategy.
