The top retail growth regions for the first five months were: Kyiv city up 11.6%; Zaporizhia up by 10.5%; and Kirovograd up by 8.8%. After Kyiv city, the top three regional markets for January-May were: Dnipropetrovsk -- UAH32.66bn; Kyiv - UAH27.83bn; and Odessa - UAH24.60bn.
As Ukrainians embraced e-commerce, retail sales jumped 15% in May,
compared to April. May sales were down 3% y/y. For the January-May period, retail sales were up 3%, reports the State Statistics Service. By comparison, retail sales grew last year by 10.5% y/y.
Ukraine retail sales advanced 3.1% y/y in real terms in 5M20, slowing slightly from 3.2% y/y growth in 4M20, Ukraine’s State Statistics Service reported on June 22. In May, retail sales dropped 3.1% y/y (vs. a 14.9% y/y plunge in April), but advanced 15.0% m/m in real terms. Regionally, the highest retail growth in 5M20 occurred in the Kyiv (11.6% y/y), Zaporizhzhia (10.5% y/y), Dnipropetrovsk and Volyn (8.0% y/y) regions. The major outsiders were Zakarpattia (-12.0% y/y), Chernivtsi (-9.6% y/y), Rivne and Lviv (-0.5% y/y) regions.
