carbon abatement, with a focus on materials, electro-chemical and thermal chemical research. Woodside and Monash will also jointly invest more than $40 million into the ongoing research partnership over the next seven years.
e Woodside Building for Technology and Design and Woodside Monash Energy partnership will build on the foundation FutureLab collaboration, established by Woodside at Monash in 2015. Monash University president and Vice-Chancellor professor Margaret Gardner AO said the new building and the growth of the Woodside- Monash Energy partnership would greatly improve Australia’s capacity to nd new solutions in sustainable energy technology, and that it would quickly build a reputation as a leading centre for innovation.

Klaipeda LNG terminal fully booked
e favourable situation in the international gas markets has been determining the highest operative e ciency of the LNG terminal since the launch of its activities. e terminal capacities are now fully booked for the rest
of the Gas Year. e Gas Year is calculated from 1 October of the current year until 30 September of the following year.
In April, about 1.48 TWh of gas were regasi ed in the LNG terminal (28.3% more than the amount of gas regasi ed in the same period last year), and in May, a total of 1.75 TWh of gas were regasi ed (21% more than in the last year’s May).
June was even more e cient for the terminal: it accepted 2 big gas carriers with
278 thousand m3 of LNG and 3 small gas carriers with 28.5 thousand m3 of LNG. Since the beginning of this year, Klaipeda LNG terminal has accepted 23 gas carriers for various LNG reloading operations.
“ e demand of Klaipeda LNG terminal is determined by the favourable situation in the international markets. It has been several months that the regasi ed LNG outbids
the gas imported via remote long-distance pipelines, therefore, the importers having access to a great number of sources use the emerging opportunities. June was the most intensive month in terms of the use of the terminal, what considerably determined the growth of the regasi cation indicators,” says Arunas Molis, head of Klaipeda LNG Service of KN (AB „Klaipedos na a“), the operator of oil products and lique ed natural gas terminals.
In June, the LNG terminal reached its record scope of activities: about 2.4 TWh of natural gas were regasi ed and submitted to the natural gas transmission system, which is approximately the same as the total amount of gas during the rst summer month consumed in all the three Baltic States. In comparison, in June this year the regasi cation amount was almost 200% higher than in June last year, when a total of 0.8 TWh of gas were regasi ed.
In June, the LNG terminal regasi ed 1.5 times more gas than the amount consumed
in Lithuania, therefore, in June, the terminal supplied gas to Lithuania, as well as part of the gas was directed by consumers to Incukalns storage facility and to consumers in Latvia and Estonia, where a total of 0.97 TWh of gas were supplied in June, i.e. about 40% of the whole amount of the gas regasi ed in the terminal
in June.
In June up to 96% of the natural gas that reached Lithuanian consumers were supplied from Klaipeda LNG terminal. e major share
of the above amount, i.e. almost 91%, were brought from the gas liquefaction factory in Norway.

Brittany Ferries names new ships
Brittany Ferries has today con rmed names for its next ships. Kerry will be the name for the one-year charter vessel arriving in November 2019. As previously announced, this ship will cover the Cork to Santander route from November 2019 to November 2020.
e company has also revealed that Santoña (pronounced Santonia in English) has been chosen for the company’s third E-Flexer class ship. To be chartered from Stena, Santoña is part of the company’s €550 million eet renewal programme, with a clear focus on sustainable development. Santoña will arrive in 2023 and like sister ship Salamanca, she will be powered by environmentally- friendly Lique ed Natural Gas (LNG).
Santoña will be the third LNG powered vessel to join the Brittany Ferries eet. e fuel burns more e ciently than diesel,so promises signi cant improvements in air quality as well as a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
Combustion produces no sulphur, virtually no particulates and 95% less NOx (nitrogen dioxide) than diesel. LNG is also up to 28% better in terms of greenhouse gas emissions according to ndings of an independent, peer- reviewed report published in April this year*.
“Brittany Ferries is committed to LNG as the most environmentally-friendly fuelling solution currently available for shipping,”
said Frédéric pouget, Brittany Ferries director of eet and port operations. “Despite the signi cant investment made in scrubber technology for our ships, we know that the best way to respect the environments in which we operate, and to exceed emission reduction targets, is to commit to LNG. is is what we have done with an investment worth half a billion euros.”
