2.7 Turkey’s construction and contractor boom
The number of construction companies operating in Turkey increased to 127,000 in 2020 from 89,000 in 2011, 101,000 in 2015 and 122,000 in 2018. More than 99,000 contracting firms are micro-sized, followed by 24,000 small-sized companies and 4,000 medium-sized companies.
There are a total of 486 large-sized construction companies.
The number of people employed by the industry increased from 978,000 in 2011 to 1.3mn in 2015 and 1.4mn in 2018 before declining to 1.1mn in 2020.
The combined net sales revenues of contractors rose to Turkish lira TRY504bn (€49bn) in 2020 from TRY480bn in 2019 while net income slumped to TRY9bn from TRY18bn in 2019.
