EASTERN EUROPE
Eastern Europe has been struggling for the last few years but all the countries emerged from recession or crisis in 2019 and are expected to grow more strongly in 2020.
Russia has changed its government and is about
to start spending heavily to boost growth. Belarus’ economy will follow Russia’s. And Ukraine will have its first full year with its new and young president Volody- myr Zelenskiy, who launched a raft of reforms on his first day on the job.

CENTRAL EUROPE
The boom that Central Europe has been enjoying for the last five years has been cooling off, but growth remains robust even as many of the countries run up against structural restraints. To a large extent many of the leading counties in the region have started to disengage from the economies of western Europe so the slow down in Germany in 2019 and Brexit in 2020 will be felt but will be less painful than it could have been.
