India’s oil, gas production
continues to fall
PERFORMANCE INDIAN oil and gas production fell in fiscal
year 2020-2021, which ended on March 31, as
the country’s lockdowns in response to the coro-
navirus (COVID-19) pandemic forced state-run
and private operators to curb production.
Crude oil production shrank by 5.2% year on
year to 30.5mn tonnes (612,500 barrels per day)
in 2020-2021 from 32.17mn tonnes (646,000
bpd) in the previous period, according to Minis-
try of Petroleum and Natural Gas data published
on April 20.
Natural gas production, meanwhile,
slipped by slightly more than 8% on the year to
28.67bn cubic metres from 31.18 bcm output in
2019-2020.
State-run Oil and Natural Gas Corp. (ONGC)
and Oil India Ltd (OIL) produced 2% and 5.4%
less oil respectively, while private operators such
as Vedanta saw their output dip 12.6%.
