According to the Russian State Statistics Service, hotel revenue in Russia surpassed the pre-pandemic level in Q2 2021. The hotel sector’s income in the reporting period was 70.7illion rubles ($970.7 million), up 13.6 percent over the previous year, according to the statistics agency. According to experts, the hotel complex’s earnings were also impacted by the temporary suspension of flights to Turkey, Vedomosti writes.
At the same time, income from tour operators and travel agencies in Russia is approximately 30% lower than in 2019. The amount of services supplied by tour operators in the second quarter was 31.4 percent lower than in the same period in 2019, totaling 30illion rubles ($411.9 million). The tourist flow has also not yet returned; in Q2, 15.2 million people stayed in hotels and other tourist accommodation facilities (-12.1 percent compared to Q2 2019).

    The Chinese side asked the Russian " Inter RAO " to increase the export of electricity to the PRC due to the deficit, RIA Novosti reported on September 29. Currently, Inter RAO is studying the technical feasibility of a significant increase in supplies, the volumes will be determined hourly, depending on demand. The company stressed that an increase in supplies to China leads to a decrease in the price of electricity for the industry of the Far East due to the peculiarities of regulating the exporter's margin. Inter RAO is the only electricity export and import operator in Russia. A severe energy crisis is undermining the growth prospects of China's production, which could trigger another spike in food prices around the world. Some Chinese enterprises were forced to suspend or reduce production in order to save electricity.
On Tuesday 28 September, the Market Council reported that it would be developing a voluntary system for coordinating the use of various green instruments. The main goal of creating and implementing this system is to establish various types of ‘green’ instruments in Russia (in particular,bilateral agreements and certificates) to confirm the consumption of electricity generated by renewable energy sources and low-carbon generating facilities.
According to the release, the producers and purchasers of ‘green’ electricity in Russia currently use the existing model of bilateral contracts, as well as international I-REC certificates, to confirm its origin. Among the risks and limitations of this approach, the Market Council mentioned the possibility of overlapping volumes transferred using various instruments, or the total number of instruments used not matching the data on the custody transfer of ‘clean’ electricity production.
