Within the industrial sector, the highest growth of nominal wages was in wood processing (21.0% y/y), machinery (20.6% y/y) and pharmaceuticals (20.3% y/y).
The average salary in Ukraine has risen to a record level since the beginning of the year in 2021. The average nominal salary of a full-time employee in November 2021 was UAH 14,282 ($525). This is 237 hryvnias more than in October 2021, UAH 14,045 ($520). According to ukrstat.gov, wages rose by 19.2% over the last year. Real wages (adjusted for inflation) grew by 8.0%. The highest salary levels were recorded in the IT sector, UAH 27,141 ($1000), and Financial and insurance services, UAH 23,419 ($865).
The State Statistics Service of Ukraine has released labour cost indices in the third quarter of 2021. Compared to the same period last year, the cost increased by 18.9%.
Recall, according to the State Statistics Service, the average nominal salary of a full-time employee of enterprises, institutions and organizations of Ukraine in October 2021 amounted to UAH 14,045. This is 194 hryvnia less than in September (14 239 hryvnia).
Labour cost growth accelerated compared to the second quarter of 2021, when growth was 13.5%, according to the statistics department.
The highest increase in the cost of labour in the field of "Arts, Sports, Entertainment and Recreation" - by 30.5%
In industry, the cost of labour increased by 14.9%, in construction - by 15.2%, in trade - by 16.1%, in transport - by 15.5%.
In the sphere of "Financial and insurance activities" the growth was 17.6%, "Information and telecommunications" - 22.1%.
In the field of "Education" the cost of labour increased by 26.5%, in the field of "Professional, scientific and technical activities" - 15.1%, "Health protection and provision of social assistance" - 24.9%.
In the area of "Temporary accommodation and catering" the cost of labour increased by 22.0%.
Wages have grown the fastest in Ukraine in iron and steelmaking, say experts interviewed for a report by Channel 5 TV. “Over the past five years, salaries in the industry have risen by 80%, taking into account inflation,” said Serhiy Belenky, chairman of the Federation of Metallurgists. At Metinvest, the largest company in the sector, salaries have increased this year by 25%.
