the last 5 years, about 2% in 2021 alone. Today, the leading suppliers of sparkling wines to Ukraine are Italy (54% of imports in monetary terms), France (18%), Spain (10%), Germany (5%), and Georgia (4%).
Exports and imports of agricultural products in 2021 increased by 22%.
This figure compared to the corresponding period of 2020, to $31.3 bln, which is 24.7% of the total foreign trade turnover in Ukraine.
Exports and imports of goods increased by more than 30%. In January-October 2021, compared to the same period in 2020, imports of goods increased by 32.1% to $57.03 bln, exports - by 37.5% to $54.47 bln. According to the Ukraine statistic service, Ukraine's foreign trade balance was negative at $ 2,565.4 million. (for January-October 2020, this figure was negative and amounted to 3547.3 million dollars). In January-October 2021, foreign trade operations were conducted with partners from 232 countries. In the first ten months of 2021, Ukraine exported the most goods to China, Poland, and Turkey.
Metals top grain. Due to high world prices, ferrous metal exports are up 80% yoy, to $11.5 billion. Grain is up 19%, to $9 billion. Vegetable oils, largely sunflower and soy, are up 16%, to $5 billion.
China is by far Ukraine’s top trading partner in goods, accounting for 13.5% of all trade. Ukraine exported to China $6.5 billion, up 20%; to Poland -- $4.5 billion, up 68%; and to Turkey $3.2 billion, up 71%. Ukraine imported from China $8.6 billion; from Germany $5.1 billion, up 17.5%; and from Russia $4.6 billion, up 24.%.
Through November, Ukraine exported a record $24.4 billion worth of food, more than the $22.2 billion exported during all of last year. In addition to grain, Ukraine is exporting this year record amounts of pasta, poultry and fruits and berries, according to theInstitute of Agrarian Economics. Of internationally traded food products, Ukraine sells 25% of all sunflower, 24% of corn and 14% of wheat.
The free trade zone with Russia was prolonged until 2023. The Cabinet of Ministers extended the resolution to suspend trade preferences for goods from Russia until December 31, 2022, said Denys Shmyhal. There was a free trade zone between Ukraine and Russia, but since the end of 2015, the suspension came into effect due to the Russian invasion of territories of Ukraine.
Exports of grain exceeded 26mn tonnes. From the beginning of 2021/2022 in the period from July 1, 2021, to December 6, 2021, exports of cereals and legumes reached 26.08mn tonnes, which is 3.78mn tonnes more than in the same period last year. According to Ministry of Agriculture data, 14.60mn tonnes of wheat were exported (2.502mn tonnes more than in the same period 2020/2021), 4.97mn tonnes of barley (1.26mn tonnes more), 82.9 thousand tonnes of rye (81.2 thousand tonnes more), 6.21mn tonnes of corn (84 thousand tonnes more).
Trade turnover between Ukraine and Japan grew by 35% during the first 9 months of this year. Ukraine's exports to Japan increased 2.3 times. Trade turnover between the countries was $1.1 bln, which was 35.6% more than in
