Ukrenergo to replace the supervisory board. The state electricity grid operator Ukrenergo will replace the majority of its supervisory board members by Dec. 9, according to a document from the Ministry of Energy obtained by news outlet Ekonomichna Pravda. The reshuffle was scheduled because the previous members’ three-year terms expired in October. Ensuring that Ukrenergo has an operational supervisory board by the end of the year was one of Ukraine’s commitments to receive a new $700 million tranche from the International Monetary Fund on Nov. 24. The change of supervisory board members comes amid a long-running standoff between the state and renewable energy producers over the feed-in tariff that they’re supposed to be paid.
The Dniester hydroelectric power plant (PSP) is now the largest in Europe. Ukrhydroenergo company has put the fourth hydro unit of the Dniester PSP into operation with a capacity of 324 MW. As a result, the total installed capacity of the Dniester PSP reached 1,296 MW in generator mode and 1,684 MW in pumping mode, reported the company. The plant will consist of seven hydraulic units with a total capacity of 2,268 MW, which puts it in first place in Europe and sixth in the world. The additional 324 MW is a factor that will contribute to energy stability and sustainability of the United Energy System," said Ukrhydroenergo CEO, Igor Sirota.
Despite two coal shipments, TPP and CHPP are short of fuel. As of December 13th, 19 TPP and CHPP units were out of operation due to a lack of coal. At state-owned Centrenergo, 9 out of 20 power units reported a lack of fuel, and seven power units were in operation (the remaining four are under repair). 14 units of Energoatom are in operation. On December 13th, coal stocks at Ukrainian TPPs’ warehouses were 451 thousand tons. This has increased since December 1st by 57,000 (+14).
Naftogaz has started selling electricity on the stock exchange. Gas Supply Company Naftogaz participated in an auction for the sale of electricity on the Ukrainian Energy Exchange (UEB), reported ExPro Consulting. The company offered a baseload for the first quarter of 2022 and January 2022 with a capacity of 25 MW. The starting price of the position for the quarter was UAH 3,500 per MWh, for January - UAH 3,300 per MWh.
For the first time since the 1960s, Chernihiv’s Thermal Energy Plant has run out of coal and switched to gas, reports the Kyiv Independent. On Monday, the plant, the source of electricity and heat for a city of 285,000 people, saw its coal stocks fall to 25% of planned levels. On Nov.1, Russia, which borders Chernihiv region, stopped selling coal to Ukraine. Next month, the plant expects a shipment of 70,000 tonnes of coal from South Africa, about 15,000 km away.
Ukraine’s national energy company, Ukrenergo, reported UAH2.7bn in
losses. The entity which is managed by the Ministry of Energy reported the losses for the three quarters of 2021. In the first half of the year, the financial
