4.2 Inflation
The central bank expects annual inflation to slow to 6.3% by the end of the year, Dmitry Sologub, a deputy governor of the National Bank of Ukraine, said. “The disinflation trend is there. We don’t see new inflationary trends,” he told reporters. Inflation in July was 9.1%.
4.2.1 CPI dynamics
In July 2019, consumer prices in Ukraine fell by 0.6%, according to Ukrstat. The prices for food and non-alcoholic drinks in July fell by 0.7%, for clothes and shoes - by 4.5%, for housing and communal services - by 2.3%. Compared with July 2018, consumer prices increased by 9.1%. In January- June, inflation amounted to 3%. The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) maintained its inflation forecast of 6.3% this year and about 5% at the beginning of 2020. Inflation in Ukraine in May 2019 was 0.7%, compared with 1% in April, 0.9% in March, 0.5% in February and 1% in January. In the annual terms, the consumer price growth accelerated by 9.6% in May, by 8.8% in April and by 8.6% in March of the current year. Core inflation in May 2019 declined to 0.2%, while in April it was 0.4%, in March - 1.2%, in February - 0.2%, and in January - 0.3%. In the annual terms, it remained at the level as in April - 7.4%, compared with 7.6% in March, 7.8% in February and 8.3% in January.
