Ukraine’s banking sector has come through 2020 in remarkably good health. ​The sector finished 2020 in profit and even earned more money in December 2020 than in any December in the last four years. Almost all the metrics remain healthy.
Still, the crisis was not without pain. Earnings were down by a bit less than a third in 2020 y/y. NPLs remain high, but they are falling slowly.
Loans to corporates have been falling for a year, but the loans to individuals, which were rising, reversed in the last months of 2020 and the start of 2021 when they began to fall.
