HPCL picks KBR tech for major refinery project
KBR announced that its market-leading ROSE® solvent de-asphalting (SDA) process will be integrated with LC-MAX technology, an advanced, patented, ebullated-bed residue upgrading process from Chevron Lummus Global (CLG) to assist Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL)’s modernization at the Visakh refinery residue upgrading project in India.
Under the terms of the contract, KBR will provide CLG the technology licensing, basic engineering design and proprietary equipment for the ROSE SDA portion of the LC-MAX unit. ROSE is a cost-effective residue upgrading process that allows refiners to upgrade a larger proportion of their low-value residue streams into high-
value products and gives clients the flexibility to respond to market developments in fuel, lube and petrochemical applications as well as reduce the environmental footprint of their products.
“We are proud to announce this latest project award for KBR’s world-leading ROSE process,” said Doug Kelly, KBR President, Technology Solutions. “Our innovative ROSE technology integrated with the LC-MAX ebullated-bed hydrocracking process is an
attractive economic solution and will enhance the overall refinery profitability.”
KBR continuously updates ROSE technology with multiple flow schemes for optimum integration with new and existing refineries. The company has been awarded more than 60 ROSE licenses with a combined licensed capacity of nearly 1.6 million BPSD with many repeat licensees.

Pertamina conducts largest
2D regional seismic sea
survey
Pertamina through its subsidiary Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE) officially began conducting the largest 2D Regional Sea Seismic survey
in Asia Pacific and Australia in the last 10
years. Pertamina is aggressive for this work
by preparing investments from the Definitive Work Commitment (KKP) in the Jambi Merang working area in 2019 amounting to US $ 20.46 million. Cumulatively, the additional investment of the Jambi Merang MPA until 2024 is US $ 239.3 million for exploration and exploitation activities.
Pertamina Upstream Director, Dharmawan H Samsu stated this seismic survey was the implementation of the CTF after signing
a gross split cooperation contract with the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas) to continue the management of the Jambi Merang working area (WK) since February 10 2019 for the next 20 years.
“The scope of this survey stretches from waters around Bangka in Western Indonesia to Papua waters in Eastern Indonesia, with a track length of about 30 thousand km,” Dharmawan said, at the opening ceremony of the 2D Merism survey of the Jambi Merang KKP in Tanjung Priok, Tuesday (11/12/2019).
According to Dharmawan, the Government mandated Pertamina to implement a Definite Work Commitment (KKP) of Exploration activities in the Open Area. One of the MPAs in the first year was the 2D Regional Seismic Sea Survey activity. The survey is the Government’s attempt to obtain the latest seismic data using the latest technology, so that it can find new reserves that are difficult to identify before due to the unavailability of seismic data in the area of interest, or lack of quality from old seismic data.

1st LNG Bunkering in Nagoya Port
Toho Gas and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) today announced the implementation of a demonstration test to supply LNG (LNG bunkering) to the LNG-fueled tugboat Ishin in the Port of Nagoya. This marked the first LNG bunkering in the Port of Nagoya, and the test confirmed that LNG can be safely supplied to vessels at the port.
LNG was transported via truck from the Toho Gas Chita-Midorihama LNG Terminal (Chita-shi, Aichi Prefecture), and supplied with a truck-to-ship system to Ishin, berthed at the Port of Nagoya’s Garden Pier.
Also cooperating in the demonstration test were, Niyac, which provides LNG land transport for Toho Gas, MOL Marine, which provides maritime consulting services, and Nihon-Tug- Boat, which operates Ishin.
Based on the findings of the demonstration test, Toho Gas and MOL will continue working to reduce the environmental impact of the maritime industry by promoting the use of LNG fuel by vessels calling at the Port of Nagoya. MOL, November 8, 2019
