Bosnia, Turkey’s Tasyapi sign MoU on Belgrade-Sarajevo motorway construction
EDB to provide $40mn loan for rehabilitation of Nurek HPP in Tajikistan
The motorway operator of Bosnia & Herzegovina’s Republika Srpska, Autoputevi, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Turkey’s Tasyapi on the construction of the Sarajevo-Belgrade motorway section via its territory, Indikator.ba reported.
The construction of the highway is aimed at creating a better connection between the two countries and will enable faster regional development. Serbia will invest €1.05bn in the construction of its part of the motorway. The total cost of the motorway is estimated at €3bn.
The highway was proposed two years ago, but as the authorities in Bosnia were unable to agree on the route, it was put on hold until now. In February, the route was finally defined, unfreezing the project.
The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB), via its Eurasian Fund for Stabilisation and Development (EFSD), has agreed to provide a $40mn loan agreement last week to finance the first phase of the Nurek hydropower plant (HPP) rehabilitation project, the EDB said in a statement.
The Nurek HPP, with an installed capacity in excess of 3,000MW, is a key asset of Tajikistan’s energy system. It generates about 70% of total annual energy demand, but suffers from dilapidated equip- ment and infrastructure. The facility, launched in 1972, currently only operates at 77% of its original capacity. The rehabilitation project will increase electricity generation by 33mn kWh, helping to address a key bottleneck. Tajik authorities are making efforts to eradicate annual energy shortages in the country — blackouts are especially prevalent during winters.
A consortium owned 15% by Hungary's state transport company MAV and 85% by China will build a new Hungarian port and logistics base in the Italian city of Trieste, it was announced on July 5.
The Hungarian government picked Trieste for its new port and logistics base to give Hungarian companies easier access to export markets, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto announced on June 20.
Hungary signed an agreement on July 5 establishing the port and logistics base. Hungary has purchased a 32-hectare plot with 300 metre of seafront for €31mn in the framework of a 60-year concession agreement, Szijjarto announced at a joint press conference after talks with Italian Minister of the Interior Matteo Salvini in Triest.
