Turkey imported a record 103 tonnes of silver in August, bringing total silver imports in the first eight months of 2020 to a record 339 tonnes, according to data from the Borsa Istanbul precious metals market.
Gold imports in the month reached 38 tonnes, the highest level recorded since January 2018.
The rising imports of precious metals were due to purchases by individual investors, local daily Sozcu reported on September 9.
A Canadian NGO, disarmament group Project Ploughshares, called on the Canadian government to ban exports of Canadian-produced sensors and laser targeting technology used by Turkish military drones deployed by Ankara across several conflict zones in the Middle East and Libya, Radio Canada International reported.
On August 26, Iran, Russia and Turkey denounced a recent deal between Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and a US firm to develop oilfields in north-east Syria.
