2.5 Half of Russians want Putin to stay on as president, a Navalny party would enter the Duma is allowed to run
Half of all Russian want Russian President Vladimir Putin to stay on as president after 2024 when his current term of office expires, but many Russians worry about a “cult of personality” developing around the leader who has been in power for more than 20 years.
At the same time the population remains underwhelmed by jailed anti-corruption activist and opposition politician Alexei Navalny. Just 8% of Russians know of and support Alexey Navalny’s “Smart Vote” initiative, according to the results of a survey conducted by the independent Levada Center at the end of September.
A total of 42% of Russians would not like Putin to be president after his current term expires in 2024, a study by independent pollster Levada Centre suggests, the highest since 2013.
