                 DENZEL WASHINGTON
“In hindsight, this Tony Awards photo booth with the New York Times was something I’ve dreamed of doing since I’d seen Annie Leibo- vitz’s Oscar portfolio. We had two and a half hours to photograph 40 Tony nominees. I was in the middle of photographing the 38th nominee when the amazing Michael Paulson tapped me and said, ‘You have four minutes to wrap this up.’ That was all the notice I really had to prepare before Denzel walked in. He was personable and upbeat. We ended up talking about the Knicks and Yankees, and then got to his favorite photographers. I joked, ‘How’s this been for you?’ He said, ‘Pretty easy.’ I let that sit, and he laughed, ‘You know that Jesse Dittmar? Easiest photographer I ever worked with.’ Then he was out.”
