Eight years ago, Jerry Cooper, John
Griswold, Carol e Ann Mason-Laux and
others launched Red Tie Arts. Our
mission was to help at risk children
become better students and adults
through exposure and the study of
music and the arts. We developed the
basis of our program with the help of
folks from Modesto’s Sylvan School
District.
How it works. We get recommenda-
tions from the schools as to which
students would benefit from additional
help through outside of school, private
lessons. They recommend, we follow
through, set up lessons with the areas
best instructors, and provide a series of
lessons. The results have been

Some of the students we have funded through Opera Modesto perform for our pre show music. Here they per-
form "We Are the World" is a charity single originally recorded by the supergroup USA for Africa in 1985. It
was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie and produced by Quincy Jones and Michael Omartian for the
album We Are the World.
