Chevrolet Index for
Identifying Years
Although popular among the hot-rodders were the early Chevys, It wasn’t until
1953 that Chevy was King. They had smooth, sensual lines as well as excellent di-
mensions. In 1955 Chevy started with the V8 engine that set them up for populari-
ty. Chevrolet first produced a V8 engine in their 1917 and 1918 models; it wasn’t
until 1955 that they reintroduced the V8. Granted, Ford came out with the V8 in
‘32 with their flathead engine, which set them out at the time. A whopping 65

horsepower.
Compare that with today’s Bugatti Chiron that boasts a mammoth 1,500 HP.
