2015 - 2016 • ANNUAL REPORT Dear EDS Families and Friends,
“Igniting a passion for learning” is our preschool slogan. “Inspiring our children to be-
come courageous leaders” is our lower school slogan and “Developing innovative problem
solvers” is our middle school slogan. These are a few of the characteristics of an innovator’s
mindset. Our school is meeting the challenges of 21st century learning, by embracing
these characteristics. We believe in the abilities, intelligence and talents of our faculty, staff
and students. We recognize there are obstacles in education, but, as innovators, we focus
on what is possible. That takes us to paths that allow us to build upon what we already
know; questioning, thinking, and contemplating challenging ideas. No one here uses the
phrase, “This is the way we have always done it.” We model learning and leadership. All of
us are willing to take risks, to try new things. This year our focus comes from our Portrait
of a Graduate and the National Association of Episcopal Schools. It is “Lifelong Learning”
from the Portrait of an EDS Graduate and “Behold, I will do something new” taken from
Isaiah and is the 2016 – 17 NAES theme.
Each of you has helped make this possible by your generosity to our school in time, talent
and treasure. I am overwhelmed and impressed by the many ways our community comes
together to support the school, its families and all of the school’s activities and programs.
It is clear that Bishop Noland Episcopal Day School is child centered and that the decisions
we make throughout the year are focused on how to provide an engaging and enriching
environment. Through this lens there are so many things involved; some are highly visible
and others are not. They all play a significant role in shaping the EDS experience.
Thank you for the many ways in which you support EDS! It makes all the difference in
what we offer.
With the deepest gratitude,
The Reverend Frances “Boo” Kay+
Head of School
