Timber Hitch

So called because it can be used for
rolling logs or hoisting lumber, the
Timber Hitch is useful as a temporary
hitch that will hold while needed and
loosen easily.
It Is simply a Half Hitch with this
added twist: After drawing the end
down through the loop, bring it over A
and under the side of the loop again,
50 that it jams more firmly. It thus
h«omes a double Overhand Knot,
and further turns can be taken to
triple or quadruple it, if so desired.

This is used for hauling long

objects, such as beams, in an upright -----
fashion. First, form a simple Half
Hitch above the center of the object,
by making an overhand loop and
drawing the end welt down, while the
standing part goes straight up.
Allow enough bight below the Half
Hitch to form l Timber Hitch around
the lower portion of the object,
tightening the free end with the
customary double twist. Hoist the
object with the standing part of the
rope.
