Day 8 - Pathetic Dog-Eared Creatures
Rows of books, hardbound. A peculiar collection.
Torn away pages.
Mistreated papers. Library needing rescue. From greasy fingers.
Lines of cramped cages. Trapping authors’ favorite pets. No one to play here.
So many stories.
So little time to read them. Only time for one.
Taken in a hand.
The poor dog-eared tragedy. And give it a home.
Day 9 - Ignorance
It’s so good to see you. Stay close to me and don’t touch anything. Hello, my precious child, what happiness you bring.
As you opened your eyes slowly, twisting in my warm embrace,
I beheld the beauty of my creation’s gentle face.
As we dwelled inside the void, preparing you for life, You learned about happiness, to stay away from strife. But just as all good things, must come to an end, Soon I must release you, for yourself you’ll fend.
You’ll need a circular state of mind.
For birth, life, and death are intimately intertwined.
And as I set you free, so you may grow wise,
I still guide you along your way, through trials much disguised. Though you may be ignorant, you’ll learn along your quest, How to survive human life, which so many detest.
As I set you in the maze to find your way to birth,
Recall the way I held you and filled your soul with mirth.
This will be easy, just hold left.
Hold a hand along the wall, I promise you are not bereft.
Although I still love you, you must travel far away,
Weaving, searching, losing in this expansive maze.
For though you may be ignorant of your current state,
I only want what’s best for you, to get you to the gate.
And though your feet may grow tired and your eyes filled with tears, Keep persevering, you’re almost there, my promises are near.
Never give up. I whisper from afar.
Although you fall and stumble, just remember who you are. Who you have been, becoming one to be,
A future of understanding, you and me.
I understand you’re tired, but you’ve still a ways to go,
Until you reach the end. I will let you know.
My child rise again, I wish not to see you die,
Before you’ve had a chance to even be alive.
There are some things worth fighting for.
And I promise it’s worth seeing what’s behind this door.
Just a few more steps, I know you’re almost there,
Please don’t give up, don’t drown in your despair.
I know sloth is tempting you but my child you must be strong. Clasp the handle just like that, and make your way along. Despite not knowing anything, you passed my first trial.
But many more evils await you, hoping to defile.
Day 10 - Celestial Souls
The adventurer leaned back and watched
As the tiny dots flew past her vision.
Her starry prince worked the helm, steering the stars about the planetarium. Someday we’ll go there.
He whispered as an exoplanet came into focus.
Its dotted surface, green with the life of another world.
Glittering blue waters of another universe, flickering.
And there.
A collection of stars clumped together like a handful of sand. Coming in closer, an asteroid belt dotted with civilizations. Hoping to make the rocky landscape into a home.
The resiliency of mankind within the vacuum of space.
Resilient like the romantic soul’s hopes and dreams for the future. Resilient like the realistic soul’s tendency to keep fighting.
I’ll take you there and we’ll dance on the moon. The celestial dome shifted
As a purple-veined body approached the zenith. Pulsating light. Pulse. Light. Her pulse felt light. Heart beating faster.
The realist took the romantic’s hand.
They rotated, revolved. Two entities locked together by their gravitational pull. Spinning, twirling, breath snatched away
By their orbital resonance.
Waiting for the day of opportunity.
Time passed. Hopes lay dormant like the white dwarves. Until the planets aligned in their favor
And the solar body erupted again with possibility.
A chance to write their names in the cosmos.
But how could they explore the universe together
When the realist had stopped fighting to keep his soul alight? And the romantic found him consumed by a black hole
With stardust dripping from his fragile wrists.
Day 11 - Celestial Hearts
The sun stared eagerly into the abyss,
At those pulsars, full of wonder, worthy of awe.
The clusters of stars shifted
As the stories of another era slipped by his eyes.
The days, weeks, months passed
With the cycling of the space-bound vessel, traveling light-years away
