Three Students Win CIA Scholastic Art Competition
Each year the Cleveland Institute of Art hosts the Scholastic Art Competition that recognizes creative achievement in local 7-12 grade students. e young artists compete for cash prizes, medals, and scholarship awards. A panel of local professional artists, art educators, writers, and writing educators jury the exhibit and select the awarded pieces from more than 1,800 entries.
- Senior Emily Dontenville ’17 won two Silver Key Awards for her “Like Father Like Son” and “High Strung” paintings.
- Senior Sarah Rapacz ’17 won a Silver Key Award for her “Mona’s Ram Head” painting.
- Junior Erica Stegens ’18 won an Honorable Mention Award for her “Mechanics” drawing and illustration.
In 2017 CIA’s Silver Keys honor artwork demonstrating achievement worthy of recognition at the regional level. Students were recognized with Silver Key pins and certi cates and were invited to the exhibition and reception on January 14.
Senior Wins Cleveland Clinic eXpressions Art Award
Senior Emily Dontenville ’17 won a 1st prize Blue Ribbon Award at the Cleveland Clinic eXpressions Art Show for her piece titled “...”. Yes, you read that correctly. e artwork is called “...”.
e eXpressions Art program is an interdisciplinary program that utilizes the arts to engage high school students in the world of science and medicine. According to its website, the program ties in state and national academic standards, giving participants a deeper, real-world understanding of art and science while promoting creativity, communication, critical thinking, and team work.
