The word "like" (verse 21) doesn't always mean "similar"; it can also mean
"resembling." The "figure" of verse 20 is "resembling" a non-figure in verse
                21. The word "figure" here is describing only the thing in the previous
verse, and the "baptism" is the baptism of the Holy Ghost (Mark 1:8).

Spirit-baptism is "the answer of a good conscience toward God" (the
immediate answer). Nobody can have "a good conscience toward God"
until they are saved, because lost people are the "enemies" of God (Romans
5:8-10). The "blood of Christ" "purge[s] your conscience from dead
works" (Hebrews 9:14), hence in the "doctrine of Christ," "repentance
from dead works" is inherent with "faith toward God" (Hebrews 6:1)
because salvation is "Not of works" (Ephesians 2:8-9), hence a "good

conscience" is associated with "faith unfeigned" in the context of the
misuse of the "law" in relation to the "gospel" (1 Timothy 1:5-11), hence the
"good conscience toward God" in 1 Peter 3:21 is synonymous with
"repentance toward God" (Acts 20:21) which is "faith toward God"
(Hebrews 6:1) which is "faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ" (Acts 20:2)
                because He is God (Matthew 1:23, Luke 2:33, 8:39, John 1:1-14, 14:9,
                20:26-28, Hebrews 1:8, Acts 20:28 with Hebrews 9:11-12 and 13:12 and

                Revelation 1:5, Romans 8:9, 1 Corinthians 15:47, 1 Timothy 3:16 with 1
                John 4:2, Philippians 2:6, Isaiah 44:6 with Revelation 1:11-18, 1 John 3:16,
                Romans 1:19-20 with Colossians 2:8-9, Hosea 13:4 with Matthew 1:21 &
                Luke 2:11 & John 4:42, Malachi 3:6 with Hebrews 13:8, Acts 20:21 with
Hebrews 6:1, Psalms 94:11 and Job 42:1-2 with Matthew 9:4 and 12:25 and
                Luke 6:8 and 11:17, 1 John 1:5 with Acts 26:13-15, Psalms 107:19,23-29
with Matthew 8:23-27, Exodus 3:14 with John 8:58, Luke 1:13-17a, John
3:16 with 5:24), hence the "baptism" in 1 Peter 3:21 is the baptism of the

Holy Ghost (Mark 1:8), which is "the answer of a good conscience toward
God [repentance/faith]" which literally "saves us" (Acts 11:14-17, 1
                Corinthians 12:13, Ephesians 1:13).

Therefore, 1 Peter 3:21 is saying that the baptism of the Holy Ghost saves us
unto the figure of Noah and his family being saved in the ark (which they
eventually came out of), which is a figure of Jesus in the tomb (which He

eventually came out of). The saving baptism of the Holy Ghost is "like" that
figure, because when it happens, we are "Buried with him in baptism,
wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of
