Craven Arts Council and Gallery offers a beautiful art venue in a former bank building known as The Bank of the Arts, which also serves as a ticket sales center for other arts agencies’ cultural events. Other organizations in the community such as Tryon Palace, Craven County Schools, and Havelock Cultural Arts Committee, have teamed up with Craven Arts Council and Gallery to enliven and improve the community’s cultural experience.

The North Carolina Symphony is known as a vital and honored element of North Carolina’s cultural life. The symphony performs their
New Bern Series at the New Bern Riverfront Convention Center each year, as well as in over 90 counties. NCS leads the most extensive education program of any U.S. orchestra, providing training and resources for teachers and classrooms. Music Director Grant Llewellyn is the symphony’s artistic leader for all 66 full time musicians.

For over 40 years, the New Bern Civic Theatre has been woven into the heart of New Bern. Originally built for silent movies in 1910, the building was called the Athens Theatre. In February 1980, NBCT renovated the structure, then in September presented its first live production called “Star Spangled Girl”.

Housed in the historic Masonic Theatre, RiverTowne Players is an integral part of the community consistently giving an opportunity for local actors, musicians, and artists to showcase their talents. The building dates back to 1805. During the
Civil War it was used as a Confederate arsenal, then later as a hospital for Union soldiers. Today, visitors may enjoy the splendor of the oldest working theatre in the United States.
