Serving more than 3,200 curriculum and 10,000 continuing education students
every year and with campuses in both New Bern and Havelock, Craven
Community College is growing to meet the needs of eastern North Carolina. A wide range of
programs, degrees, and certificates are offered including college transfer courses, career and occupational programs, partnerships with four-year universities, specialized workforce training options, developmental studies, and basic skills classes. In 2008, the college opened new buildings to hold an array of business, computer information technology, and state-of-the-art training in manufacturing methods. A strong adult enrichment program and arts and entertainment events are also given. The mission of the college is to be “a dynamic and responsive institution of higher education committed to improving and enriching lives and society through comprehensive, high quality and accessible learning opportunities that allow students to contribute and compete in a diverse and global community.”

The University of Mount Olive is a private, Christian institution. The vision of the University is to “provide our students–regardless of age, location, or learning style–a high quality education rooted in the liberal arts and strengthened by Christian values, enrich and support the ministries of our founding church, customize innovative and beneficial services to each community in which we are located.” Founded in 1951, the University offers
a comprehensive academic experience to its student body population and includes traditional, adult, online, and graduate programs.
Locations include Mount Olive, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, Jacksonville, New Bern, Research Triangle Park, Smithfield at Johnson Community College, Washington, and Wilmington.
