First State Heritage Park at
Dover is a group of historical and cultural sites. The sites of the park highlight Delaware’s role as the “First State” to ratify the United States Constitution. First State Heritage Park is open year-round, with special tours of the sites given the first Saturday of each month.

Centrally located in the heart
of Kent County, the park’s centerpiece is the 66 acre millpond featuring boating and fishing. Killens Pond makes a perfect home base for exploring the First State. Open year-round, the park’s campground and cozy cabins are popular retreats no matter what the season.

Travel back in time by visiting an historic gristmill, strolling along woodland trails, and exploring a scenic pond. The Delaware Nature Society offers programs and events for all ages year-round.

The distinctive red-roofed
center includes an observation deck with telescopes to view
the harbor, bay, and shoreline, and the more than 130 species
of fish, shellfish, waterfowl, and birds that populate the area. Outdoor tanks with live, adult horseshoe crabs allow visitors to see and touch one of the longest- surviving creatures on earth. The center is open from 10am until 4pm Wednesday and Saturday in April, Tuesday through Sunday starting May 1 until Aug 31 and Wednesday and Saturday in Sept.

Over 16,251 acres managed for migrating and wintering waterfowl and migrating shorebirds and songbirds. A 12 mile auto-tour route provides easy viewing of birds located in impoundments and in tidal salt marsh areas. Five short walking trails are located along the auto-tour route.

With 182 acres of open space, hardwood, holly, and pine trees, this park has benches, two picnic pavilions, a sandy beach, boat ramp, and a paved walkway. Swimming, boating, and fishing are available. Also, waterskiing is now available at the Silver Lake reservoir. Located in Dover, this park is easily accessible from all locations near and far.
