The historic meetinghouse of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints was built by settlers of Pine Valley in 1873. The settlers came
to Pine Valley in 1856 to harvest timber. The Pine Valley mills provided timber for several Latter-Day Saint construction projects including the
St. George Temple, the St. George Tabernacle, and the pipes for the organ in the Salt Lake Tabernacle.

The building, which is now the
St. George Art Museum, was originally built in the 1930s to store beet seed for a sugar beet factory. This was the start of a business that would last for nearly fifty years.
The building was vacant after 1979 and became an eyesore. Through the vision, generosity, and hard work of the community, the ultimate dream to restore the building as part of
the St. George’s historic district was realized in 1997 when it became the beautiful new home of the Art Museum.

Completed in 1876, this historic monument was a central gathering place in the city. Construction began in 1863 using local red sandstone and volunteer labor. All aspects were donated or funded by the tithing donations of the saints. Settlers all over southern Utah worked on or provided good for the construction. Today guided tours illustrate the faith of the Latter-Day Saints in
their desire to create a holy building to worship God. The tabernacle is home to church services, daily music recitals, and the weekly Dixie History and Music Series. Tours of this historical masterpiece are free.

This famous Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints was built between 1871 and 1877 and is the oldest temple still
in use by the Church. Over one million feet of lumber was used in construction, most of it hand-hewn and hauled between 37 to 80 miles from Pine Valley and Mt. Trumball. This impressive white Temple can be seen from all over the city and
is strikingly contrasted by the red sandstone bluffs. The Visitors Center is open to everyone.
