We received a rumour that our suspect in chief is hiding in plain sight amongst
the social circles of High Society and the Arts.
Arthur and I head to the theatres, playhouses, clubs and other dens of iniquity; I am
beside myself with the opportunity to feed my vices - it has been too long and I feel
like I am returning to home territory,
Months go by in the search for clues; stories abound and it soon becomes apparent
that we are closing in. With the help of a representative of the Pinkerton Detective
agency, we are discovering that a multitude of criminality seems to lead back to one
person, an American named Adam Worth. Arthur has taken to referring to him
as a “Napoleon of Crime”. We enlist an old friend, Oscar Wilde, who will attempt
to introduce us to Mr Worth under the guise of us buying a missing Gainsborough
painting called ‘the Duchess’.
