Meanwhile, I head to the Edinburgh Phrenology Society to start lectures on the

        Psychology of the criminal mind where the case of a burglar, Charles Peace, grabs my
        attention.


        Arthur becomes more and more sidelined into a belief of spirits in the afterlife and
        decides to hold a séance. This obsession is of great concern to me. In an attempt to

        bring him back to normality, I invite a sister from the local convent to talk some
        sense into him.



        A late night visit from Herbert Wells bearing some Absinthe gives me an opportunity
        to formally introduce my friend to Arthur and they immediately hit it off. Arthur

        and Herbert discuss a book by Mary Shelley called “The Modern Prometheus” that
        showcases their joint love of science, the occult, storytelling and writing.


        The name of the book reminds me of my task at hand… to deal with my nemesis,
        Prometheus Livingarty.
