Message from
Jay Umansky
Synagogue President
It is my distinct pleasure to honor this year’s awardees at
Nusach Hari B’nai Zion’s 114th Annual Banquet. I have the
highest respect for our Sisterhood President, and winner of
our HaKaras HaTov Award, Teree Farbstein. Teree has
revitalized the Sisterhood and leads this important arm of our
Shul community with calm and quiet leadership. She
personifies all that is good at Nusach Hari. This year’s
guests of honor, Joni and Bob Kaiser have led the Shul in so
many ways for so many years, I am not sure where to begin.
Joni’s smile lights the building. She is always available to
help in any way she might be needed. Bob, who preceded
me as President, served as a model allowing me to assume
the leadership of the Shul knowing that he would always be
available with encouragement and suggestions. His vision
resulted in the implementation of a strategic plan that serves
as the foundation for the congregation’s future.
Marcy and Rick Cornfeld have served as leaders of the St.
Louis Jewish Community for many years. As members of
AIPAC’s National Council they devote much of their time
traveling back and forth to Washington, meeting with elected
officials on behalf of the U.S.-Israel relationship. Both have
also served on the board of United Hebrew Congregation,
where Rick has served as the congregation’s
president. Marcy Cornfeld has served as the chair of the
United Hebrew Israel Committee (“Focus Israel UH” ). When
