15.4 Let’s Practice…

                        1. The Seventh Day Adventists teach that Jesus and ______________ are one and the same.

                        2. The Seventh Day Adventist Church denies that the soul continues to exist after death. They
say the soul is not separate from the body, so when the body dies the soul
_________________ and will be revived later in a future judgment where the righteous have
eternal life, but the wicked are destroyed and have no existence.

               3. What do Adventists believe about the soul of men?

               4. What does the SDA Church believe that the eternal nature of the soul?

               5. What happens to the souls of wicked men?

               6. Give an example how the Clear Word is biased and modifies Scripture to fit their beliefs.

               15.5 Let’s Personalize this Lesson…

Quite often we read a verse in Scripture, and rather than carefully studying it, we tell others
what we think it is saying. We might find, after further study, that we are incorrectly handling
God’s Word. Here is an example.

Eph.2:8-9 is often used as a proof text for those who believe that a human cannot have faith
to believe in God unless that faith comes from God. The quote the verse saying, “For by grace are you
saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is a gift of God….” In a casual reading, you might think
that faith is a gift of God. However, the Greek word for faith is feminine in gender but the word “it”,
which is the gift, is neuter in gender. This means whatever is the gift of God must be neuter, which is
salvation. The verse teaches that salvation is a gift from God, not faith. Christ died for every man and
God is not willing that any perish (II Peter 2:9). God gives all men the opportunity to be saved, but each
man must, by an act of his free will, exercise FAITH in what God has done for him. You need to be
careful to rightly divide God’s Word. You would not want to be guilty of altering it in any way to make
your own personal point. Looking at what the translators have done in the Clear Word should warn you
to be careful as you feed God’s flock.
