in a sense, the treasurer of the group.  Perhaps, in their mind, Jesus was instructing him to make a
               purchase or give some money to needy people.  Judas left the group unnoticed.

               Next, Jesus took bread and wine and instructed the remaining disciples to remember Him.  In I
               Corinthians 11:23-26 Paul states that he did this “while He was being betrayed…” which tells us that
               Judas was off to fetch the arresting force while Jesus remained in the upper room introducing the eleven
               to the “Lord’s Supper”.  Jesus then began to address the eleven concerning the coming of the Holy Spirit.
               Jesus arose, to everyone’s surprise, and led them out of the room, down and across the Kidron Valley to
               a special garden that He frequented often: Gethsemane.  Locate the Upper Room in the map below,
               then trace the journey to the Mount of Olives down through the Kidron Valley.















































               As they walked down this path, which probably took about 30 minutes, Jesus continued to prepare them
               for what was shortly to occur.  He shared the “vine and branches” discourse, warned them of the
               coming rejection, told them of the promised coming Spirit, then Jesus paused and probably in the
               hearing of the eleven, prayed the “High Priestly prayer” of John 17.  All this was in preparation of the
               believing disciples for the events to soon come.

               The Garden of Gethsemane
               It is interesting that Jesus took them to a garden called Gethsemane.  Gethsemane means “press” which
               was used to extract the oil from the olive trees that abounded in the garden.   People in Israel knew
