P. 19
Third, notice that John was a voice, not in Jerusalem, nor at the temple, but rather in the wilderness. He spoke
for God in a geographical and spiritual wasteland. John’s message and call to repentance resonated in the
people’s hearts. People came from great distance to hear him because he was a Spirit – empowered
spokesperson calling people back to God. When God’s hand is on a pastor and congregation, they will not have
to use gimmicks to attract people. Today, as in John’s day, people are hungry for an authentic word from God.

35 Again the next day, John was standing with two of his disciples. When he saw Jesus passing by, he said,
“Look! The Lamb of God!” The two disciples heard him say this and followed Jesus.

Behold the Lamb of God!
In this next section of Scriptures, we will witness of Jesus set out to change the world, beginning with a handful
of unremarkable men.
But from the beginning,
He had great
expectations. Small
expectations arouse a
weak response; great
expectations inspire
heroic action.
The Balance of Salvation
John 1:38 – 51
In a passage that perfectly illustrates the biblical balance between divine sovereignty and human responsibility,
John records the call of Jesus' first disciples to salvation. We meet first the seeking souls, and then the seeking
Savior.
