administration of this mystery, which for ages past was kept hidden in God, who created all things.
10 His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made
known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms, 11 according to his eternal purpose
which he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord. 12 In him and through faith in him we may
approach God with freedom and confidence. 13 I ask you, therefore, not to be discouraged
because of my sufferings for you, which are your glory.

Paul reveals in verses 4-6 that the fact that God would unite believing Jews and believing Gentiles
together in the same Church of Jesus Christ was a mystery to the men of previous generations. Verse 10
tells us that God’s intent was to use the Church of Jesus Christ to communicate God’s message during
               this specific period of time.

The word NIV84 translates “administration” in Ephesians 3:2 is often translated “dispensation” or
               “stewardship”.

Ephesians 3:2 (NIV84)2 Surely you have heard about the administration of God’s grace that was
                  given to me for you,
Ephesians 1:10 (NIV84)10 to be put into effect when the times will have reached their fulfillment—
to bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ.

1 Corinthians 9:17 (NIV84)17 If I preach voluntarily, I have a reward; if not voluntarily, I am simply
discharging the trust committed to me.

Colossians 1:25 (NIV84)25 I have become its servant by the commission God gave me to present to
you the word of God in its fullness—
