The Millerites predicted that on October 22, 1844, Jesus Christ was coming again to earth
as He promised when He departed from the Mt. of Olives. People gathered together and
waited, but Christ did not come. This event was called “The Great Disappointment.” A
New York farmer named Hiram Edson was among those who spent the night of the great
                            disappointment weeping and grieving.

However, the next day, he and his friend, O.L. Crosier, decided to go comfort some of the other
believers. While cutting across Edson’s field, suddenly Hiram looked up and in the clouds he said he saw
the heavens open. Instead of seeing Jesus come as King of Kings, he saw God the Father and Jesus as
our High Priest, rise and move from the Holy Place in Heaven to the Holy of Holies (a second
apartment). Hiram called this the “Sanctuary Doctrine.” He explained that it was the time when Jesus
began his scrutiny of the works of believers, His “Investigative Judgment.” They declared the event
marked by 1844 was not the Second Coming, but the entrance of Christ into the Holy of Holies in the
Heavenly Sanctuary. There, they said, He began the "Investigative Judgment." This doctrine was
received, endorsed, and promoted by Ellen G. White and today is a part of the Seventh Day Adventist
               doctrine.

They teach that Jesus began, at that day, to investigate the sins of all the people in the world and began
to sprinkle His blood on them to cover them. And since 1844, that is what Jesus has been doing. And
when He gets done, He will come again as He declared. All of these teachings are foreign to God’s
Word. As we will see today, Jesus made one sacrifice for sins and shed His blood ONCE FOR ALL to
provide salvation to all who would believe. Let’s learn about this...

                12.2 Objectives

                     1. The student should be able to explain how Jesus’ sacrifice was superior to all previous sacrifices
                     for sin.

                     2. The student should be able to explain v.26 where a person deliberately continues to sin
               proclaiming no sacrifice.

               3. The student should be able to answer the problem about perseverence and those who shrink back.
