P. 105

Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man
became a living soul" (Gen. 1:27; 2:7). It should be noted that the creation man is not by chance, but man
is the goal of God’s work in creation. The word Man refer to the entire human race in general (including
both men and women. The Hebrew term translated “Man” is ם ָד ָא, the same term used for the name of
               Adam, and the same term that is sometimes used of man in distinction from woman (Gen. 2:22, 25; 3:12;
               Eccl. 7:28).

Scripture teaches that the whole human race descended from a single pair. This is the obvious reading of
the opening chapters of Genesis. God created Adam and Eve as the beginning of the human species, and
commanded them to be fruitful and multiply, and replenish the earth. Furthermore, the subsequent
narrative in Genesis clearly shows that the following generations down to the time of the flood stood in
unbroken genetic relation with the first pair, so that the human race constitutes not only a specific unity,
a unity in the sense that all men share the same human nature, but also a genetic or genealogical unity.

God Created Man for His Own Glory

God is independent of his creation including Man. Scripture teaches that God
does not need us or the rest of creation for anything, yet we and the rest of
creation glorify him and bring him joy. The triune God does not lack fellowship
(John 17:5, 24). God is never lonely and he is never out fellowship. God is above
all his creation and he does not lack anything. We must be grateful to know the
sovereign creator made us for his own glory. This means that we are important
because we are His. Scripture tells us that we were created to glorify God, signifying that we are important
to God himself. We should be careful that our view of ourselves should not be too big than the view of
God the creator all things. God is epicenter universe, it all about him and we are to glorify him at all times.
Someone might object that it is wrong for God to seek glory for himself in creating man. Certainly, it is
wrong for human beings to seek glory for themselves, as we see in the dramatic example of the death of
Herod Agrippa I. When he proudly accepted the shout of the crowd, “The voice of a god, and not of man!”
(Acts 12:22), “immediately an angel of the Lord smote him, because he did not give God the glory; and he
was eaten by worms and died” (Acts 12:23). Herod died because he robbed God of glory, glory that God
deserved and he did not. “Everyone who is called by My name, and whom I have created for My glory,
Whom I have formed, even whom I have made”” (Isaiah 43:7, NASB95). “also we have obtained an
inheritance, having been predestined according to His purpose who works all things after the counsel of
His will, to the end that we who were the first to hope in Christ would be to the praise of His glory” (Eph.
1:11–12, NASB95). “Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God” (1 Cor.
               10:31, NASB95).

What Is the Purpose of Human Life?

The question about the purpose of life has been raised in every generation and
examined throughout history. All humans are born in this world without knowing
exactly who they are. But the bible tells us who we are and why we are created
by God. Our true identity, meaning and purpose comes from God our creator.
Our understanding of the purpose of life is important because it shapes our way
of life. The meaning and purpose are ultimately found in Jesus Christ.

Apostle Paul exclaims, “For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever.
Amen” (Rom. 11:36). When we begin to appreciate the nature of God as the infinitely perfect Creator who
deserves all praise, then our hearts will not rest until we give him glory with all of our being (Mark 12:30).
Human life is sacred and is a gift from God which is to be respected and protected. The Bible teaches that
