Blessedness
50
This attribute means that “God delights fully in Himself and in all that reflects his character.” Paul calls
God the Father as blessed and only sovereign (1 Tim. 6:15). Based on some Scripture references, it
seems that God delights in creation that reflects His own excellence. Moses says, “ God saw all that he
31
had made, and it was very good indeed. Evening came and then morning: the sixth day” (Gen. 1:31
5
[CSB]). Prophet Isaiah describes a promise of the future rejoicing of God over His people: “ For as a
young man marries a young woman, so your sons will marry you; and as a groom rejoices over his bride,
so your God will rejoice over you” (Isa. 62:5; cf. Prov. 8:30-31; Zeph. 3:17 [CSB]).
We can imitate God’s blessedness whenever we find delight and happiness in all that is pleasing to God
from us and those of others. Further, we can imitate the blessedness of God by rejoicing in the creation
because it reveals some aspects of the character of God.
Beauty
51
This is that attribute whereby God is the “sum of all desirable qualities.” On the beauty of God, David
says, “ I have asked one thing from the Lord; it is what I desire: to dwell in the house of the Lord all the
4
days of my life, gazing on the beauty of the Lord and seeking him in his temple” (Psa. 27:4 [CSB]).
Remember, perfection mean that God does not lack anything desirable. It seems that beauty is a
verification for the definition of perfection. That is, the beauty of God shows us that truly, God does not
25
lack desirable qualities. The psalmist states that all what he desires is found in God Himself: “ Who do I
have in heaven but you? And I desire nothing on earth but you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but
26
God is the strength of my heart, my portion forever” (Psa. 73:25-26 [CSB]).
We can imitate this attribute by displaying conduct that pleases God the Father. Peter reminds women
that they were not supposed to let their beauty “ consist of outward things like elaborate hairstyles and
3
wearing gold jewelry or fine clothes, “ but rather what is inside the heart—the imperishable quality of a
4
5
gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight” (1 Pet. 3:3-4 [CSB]) because “ in the past,
the holy women who put their hope in God also adorned themselves in this way, submitting to their
6
own husbands, just as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord. You have become her children when
you do what is good and do not fear any intimidation (1 Pet. 3:5-6 [CSB]).
Glory
52
This attribute is defined as “created brightness that surrounds God’s revelation of” Himself. Of this
10
glory, David asks: “ Who is he, this King of glory? The Lord of Armies, he is the King of glory” (Psa. 24:10
9
[CSB]). In Luke 2:9, Luke says, “ Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord
shone around them, and they were terrified” (Luke 2:9 [CSB]).
According to apostle Paul’s writings, Christians are not commanded to imitate this attribute because
18
“ We all, with unveiled faces, are looking as in a mirror at the glory of the Lord and are being
transformed into the same image from glory to glory; this is from the Lord who is the Spirit” (2 Cor. 3:18
[CSB]).
