Study Section 11: The Filling and Sealing of the Holy Spirit

               11.1 Connect.

There is a lot of confusion today about some of the things the Holy Spirit does. Some
Christians who tell you that after you are saved, you need to seek a new level in your
Christian life called the Baptism of the Spirit. When you get the baptism, you will speak in
tongues. You then will find greater victory in your life and can serve the Lord more
effectively and with greater enthusiasm. You have other believers that tell you that is
incorrect, but what you need to do is be “filled” with the Spirit to have victory in your life. It is through
the “filling” that you will see the Holy Spirit work in your life. Which one is correct?

The Holy Spirit is busy each day in our lives. He is active, not passive. His activity is limited only by our
will to stand against Him or sin in our lives. So today, let’s see how we can give Him more control and
let’s learn how to take a backseat, yielding our lives to His guidance and direction. Let’s find out….

              11.2 Objectives.

                          1. Students should be able to display in their lives the results of a daily filling of the Holy
                          Spirit.

                          2. The student should be able to describe how the Holy Spirit is his/her seal and why that is
                          so important.

               3. The student should be able to explain how we grieve the Holy Spirit and how that activity affects our
               walk with Christ.

               4. The student should be able to clarify whether worshipping the Holy Spirit is OK, or should be only
               worship Jesus Christ?

11.3 The Filling and Sealing of the Holy Spirit

The Difference Between the Filling and Indwelling (Receiving) of the Holy Spirit

An important verse in understanding the filling of the Holy Spirit is John
14:16, where Jesus promised the Spirit would indwell believers and that
the indwelling would be permanent. It is important to distinguish the
indwelling from the filling of the Spirit. The permanent indwelling of the Spirit is not for
a select few believers, but for all believers. There are a number of references in
               Scripture that support this conclusion:

               A. The Holy Spirit is a gift given to all believers in Jesus without exception, and no conditions are placed
upon this gift except faith in Christ (John 7:37-39).
