Isaiah’s prophecy clearly shows that the plan was for Jesus to die. ‘He was cut off from the land of the
living’.
Then, the prophecy continues. His grave was made with the wicked…with sinners, as we all are. But, in
a ‘last minute twist of the plot’, His grave was with the rich, when Joseph of Arimathea (John 19: 38-42)
donated his own burial place to Jesus.
V. 10-12 I may struggle with this as much as any verse. How could God be ‘pleased’ to see His Son
suffer? Because He knew it was necessary for you and me.
It makes me wonder if God finds pleasure in our suffering? Only because He knows the ultimate result
and how we will grow because of that suffering.
In V. 12, Jesus Himself looks back on this with satisfaction because of the justification of many.
Jesus sits today at the right hand of God, because ‘divided with Him a portion with the great’.
