17.5 Let’s Personalize this lesson…

How do we connect with John’s Revelation? The book of Revelation is above everything else a
book of hope, just as it was to the original audience. Jesus has already prevailed, and He will
one day come in power to fully vindicate His people and dwell with them in the renewed
heaven and earth. It was Jesus who gave this Revelation to John. The same Jesus who predicted
His death and the resurrection, and pulled it off exactly as He prophesied. We can be rest assured that
the prophesies in Revelation will come to pass as well. However, all believers have a part to play in the
cosmic battle between light and darkness; we are not to sit on the sidelines and wait for the end of
history. Jesus Himself calls us to be conquerors with Him (2:7; 17:14; 21:7). I challenge us to actively and
intentionally be offensive in conquering the kingdom of darkness with the light of the gospel.
