P. 49
Philip and the Ethiopian Eunuch
9.4 Let’s Practice…
1. In which way was persecution good for the church?
2. We are told that Philip did great miracles in Samaria, what was the biblical purpose for
miracles?
3. Although the Samaritans believed the good news preached by Philip and were baptized
(8:12) they did not receive the Holy Spirit until Peter and John arrived and placed hands on them
(8:14-17). Why the time lapse? What does this signify? Is the experience of the Samaritans
normative?
4. Was Simon saved through the ministry of Philip, why or why not?
9.5 Let’s Personalize this Lesson…
Often times we tend to think that reaching out to the lost is a task for some special
evangelistic figures who have some sort of special anointing in that field. If that was the
mindset of the first century believers, the church could have taken long to expand. If you
were looking for a role model, I have found two for you, Stephen and Philip. These were
common Christians just like you and I, they were not part of the Apostles. But that did
not hinder them from ministering in very challenging situations. Stephen witnesses fearlessly to the
religious leaders without minding much about his life. Philip breaks the barrier between Jews and
Samaritans through the gospel. If there is one sure area were your life is worth investing without a
loss, it is in sharing the gospel to the lost!
