What the Qur'an Says About the Bible

              • God kept the previous scriptures from corruption.
o "To thee We sent the Scripture in truth, confirming the scripture that came before it, and guarding it in
safety: so judge between them by what Allah hath revealed..." - Al-Ma'idah (The Table Spread) 5:48
o "(It is) in Books held (greatly) in honor, exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, written by the hands of
scribes - honorable and pious and just." - Abasa (He Frowned) 80:13-16
              • The Injil (Gospel) confirms the Tawrat (the books of Moses).
o "And We caused Jesus, son of Mary, to follow in [the prophets'] footsteps, confirming that which was
(revealed) before him in the Torah, and We bestowed on him the Gospel wherein is guidance and a light,
confirming that which was (revealed) before it in the Torah - a guidance and an admonition unto those
who ward off (evil)." - Al-Ma'idah (The Table Spread) 5:46
              • Muslims should believe in the prior scriptures.
o "But those among [the Jews and Christians] who are well-grounded in knowledge, and the believers,
believe in what hath been revealed to thee and what was revealed before thee..." - Al-Nisa' (Women) 4:162
o "Say ye: 'We believe in Allah, and the revelation given to us, and to Abraham, Isma'il, Isaac, Jacob, and the
Tribes, and that given to Moses and Jesus, and that given to (all) prophets from their Lord; we make no
difference between one and another of them; and we bow to Allah (in submission).'" - Al- Baqara (The Cow)
                         2:136
              • Christians should use the Gospel to determine the truth of God's message.
o "Let the people of the Gospel judge by what Allah hath revealed therein. If any do fail to judge by (the
light of) what Allah hath revealed, they are (no better than) those who rebel." - Al-Ma'idah (The Table
                         Spread) 5:47
              • Following the Bible causes one to be admitted to Paradise.
o "If only the People of the Book had believed and been righteous, we should indeed have blotted out
their iniquities and admitted them to gardens of bliss. If only they had stood fast by the Law, the Gospel,
and all the revelation that was sent to them from their Lord, they would have enjoyed happiness from
every side. There is from among them a party on the right course; but many of them follow a course that
is evil. " Al- Ma'idah (The Table Spread) 5:65-66
              • Jews and Christians should stand fast to their scriptures.
o "Say: 'O People of the Book! ye have no ground to stand upon unless ye stand fast by the Law, the
Gospel, and all the revelation that has come to you from your Lord.'" - Al-Ma'idah (The Table Spread) 5:68a
              • Muslims are not supposed to argue with Jews or Christians concerning the prior scriptures, since the Qur'an is
not supposed to contradict the other holy books.
o "And dispute ye not with the People of the Book, except with means better (than mere disputation),
unless it be with those of them who inflict wrong (and injury); but say, 'We believe in the revelation which
has come down to us and in that which came down to you; Our Allah and your Allah is one; and it is to
Him we bow (in Islam).'" - Al-Ankaboot (The Spider) 29:46
