P. 76
The Lord guides us into a profession and provides us with the wisdom and strength to be faithful in the
work that is set before us. Since God chooses the tasks for us, He will endow us with supernatural
abilities through the Holy Spirit to accomplish our tasks. The problem we may find ourselves in is that
we are not in God’s will at a particular job and, therefore, we find ourselves inadequate to do the job. It
is extremely important that we seek God’s mind where God wants us to work.
When God places us in a position, He asks only one thing of us:
Colossians 3:23-24 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as
working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an
inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
The Bible says that if you fail to work hard, the result will bring you
poverty.
Proverbs 6:9-11 How long will you lie there, you sluggard? When will you get up from your sleep? A
little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest – and poverty will come on you like a
bandit and scarcity like an armed man.
It is important that you understand that God controls all promotions and demotions, not your boss. All
authority is under God’s authority and control. God is sovereign over all. If we do our work to please
God, pleasing our boss is a natural and absolute byproduct. God’s laws carry a much higher standard
than the requirements of man.
Psalm 75: 6-7 No one from the east or the west or from the desert can exalt a man. But it is God who
judges; He brings one down, and He exalts another.
In your work environment, remember that God is there to help, guide, and support you. If you need
something, just ask him for it. Rely on God’s strength in your job, not your own.
Luke 11: 9 – 11 So I say to you, Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door
will be open to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the
door will be opened.
Ethics in the Workplace
Ethics is about knowing and doing what is good or right, and workplace ethics is
about knowing and doing what is good or right at work. For the Christian, this
means applying the Bible and other resources of the Christian faith to help us to
decide what is ethical or moral at work.
Christians are agreed that the Bible plays an essential role in determining our understanding of such
commands and principles. And it is not hard to find Bible verses that speak about work. The following
principles were listed in the article, What are God’s rules? In Theology of Work
(https://www.theologyofwork.org/key-topics/ethics/systematic-presentation-of-ethics/different-approaches-to-
ethics/the-command-approach-in-practice/what-are-gods-rules-is-there-a-command-for-every-occasion:)
• In the first two chapters of the Bible, men and women are given work to do, both caring for and
cultivating natural resources given by God (Gen. 1:26-29; Gen. 2:15; Gen. 2:18-20).
