Study Section 5: Example of Jesus as Teacher - continued
5.1 Connect
Jesus was an amazing teacher! We definitely want to learn from Him how we can be a
better teacher. As we become more like Christ, which of course is our goal as Christians, we
will become more capable teachers, just like He was. Today we want to continue in our
study of the Master Teacher and look for ways we can truly become more like Him.
5.2 Objectives
1. The student should be able to explain how Jesus put the needs of people first over the rules
and regulations of the law.
2. The student should be able to explain how Jesus asked those He taught to respond to his
message.
3. The student should be able to describe how Jesus’ teachings were backed by God’s authority. As
teachers, we have the Holy Spirit as our great teacher. All we have to do is get out of the way and let
Him teach through us.
4. The student should be able to explain that the power of prayer is what energizes what is being
taught.
5.3 Example of Jesus as Teacher – continued
5. Jesus Was a Teacher Who Taught by Placing People First
Luke 13: 10-17 On a Sabbath Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues, and a
10
11
woman was there who had been crippled by a spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over
and could not straighten up at all. When Jesus saw her, he called her forward and said to
12
her, “Woman, you are set free from your infirmity.” Then he put his hands on her, and immediately she
13
straightened up and praised God.
14 Indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, the synagogue leader said to the people, “There
are six days for work. So come and be healed on those days, not on the Sabbath.”
15 The Lord answered him, “You hypocrites! Doesn’t each of you on the Sabbath untie your ox or donkey
16
from the stall and lead it out to give it water? Then should not this woman, a daughter of
Abraham, whom Satan has kept bound for eighteen long years, be set free on the Sabbath day from
what bound her?”
17 When he said this, all his opponents were humiliated, but the people were delighted with all the
wonderful things he was doing.
