Study Section 12: A Sample Lesson
12.1 Connect
This last lesson we learned how to create a lesson. Now we want to show you one we have
done, taking you through the same 14 steps. You will note that we have a teacher who will
be preparing this lesson and will give you his thoughts along the way. We decided to put the
teacher’s thoughts in red so you could distinguish what he was learning from what he was
thinking during the process. The lesson is a bit long because the teacher decided to carefully
study every passage on the topic. Because of its length, we will divide the sample lesson into
two parts. Take the time to think through the process just as our teacher has. You will find the process
he will take you through will be very similar to the process you will go through as you prepare lessons in
the future. Get ready for an exciting journey through the Word of God…..
12.2 Objectives
1. The student is invited to accompany our teacher through the process of creating a lesson
based on answering a question posed to him.
2. The student should be able to apply the 14 steps to the process of creating a lesson.
12.3 A Sample Lesson with Personal Notes Evaluating the Process
This is the example of the process you may go through to create your Bible study. The preparer of the
lesson wrote personal notes (his thought process) about the study and they are written in red.
My pastor at church said that God wants me to give 10% (tithe) of what
He gives me to the church. In the next few pages is a study I conducted
from God’s Word following the suggested steps for creating a Bible study.
Throughout the study, I will share with you my thoughts as the study is
developed.
1. Select a topic. I want to find out if my pastor is teaching me the truth about giving. So my topic
is about Giving to God.
2. Rewrite the topic into the form of a question. Of course, I have many questions about what
my pastor is teaching us. But if I wanted to limit it to one question (thereby limiting my study to
resolve one question), it would be, “What giving pattern has God laid down for me in the Bible?”
Answering this question should pretty much tell me if my pastor is teaching me what the Bible
says.
3. Do a search in your concordance for verses that deal with that word or synonyms. Obviously,
the word, “tithe” would be in my search. Other words I can think of would be “money,”
“giving,”, “possessions,” “wealth,” and “riches.” As I get into the study, I may find even more
synonyms that may help.
